We are pleased to announce that 4,000 recycling totes have been delivered to Township households! The solid waste industry is moving in a direction where these carts will soon be necessary for the collection of waste, as more trucks are equipped with automated arms compatible with the bins. This increased efficiency, together with enhanced collection staff safety and additional space to store recyclables, makes these carts a win for the community! The more "clean" recycling we collect, the more grant money we can claim, and the more we are able to control costs to the residents.
Given the scope of this project, staff is now receiving a large amount of requests from people who
- did not receive a cart
- want to return their cart
- would like to trade in their cart for a different size.
More instructions will be coming soon.
We are working now to intake these requests and coordinate with the cart delivery company when we can fulfill these requests. If you have already reached out to the Township regarding your request, please know that we have received it and will be following up, with additional instructions and timing.
If you received your bin and are ready to start using it, you can start right away! You may mix all of your recyclables in the cart, including cardboard boxes. See the graphic below for guidance on what can/cannot be recycled.
If you have questions, please email solidwaste@westwhiteland.org. If you have already contacted us, we have your request and will be following up with more detailed instructions soon.
Background
Thanks to a grant from The Recycling Partnership, West Whiteland Township is providing 5,000 households with large, wheeled recycling totes for their weekly collection. These carts provide additional space for collecting recycling and, importantly, improve both safety and efficiency for the trash and recycling haulers. The first of two delivery phases began the week of June 10.
We value your feedback as we continually look for ways to improve services for our residents and to continue to build upon our very successful recycling program which we rank in the top 10% in the State. West Whiteland Township receives money from Pennsylvania based on the amount of material we recycle. The more we recycle, the more money we get back to keep the trash bag prices down. Please help us continue to make recycling pay!
