West Whiteland Township is seeking an Accounting and Finance Associate who can think for themselves, has strong analytical skills, has technical aptitude and wants to make a difference.

West Whiteland Township is located 30 miles outside of Philadelphia, in the center of beautiful Chester County surrounding the Exton Crossroads of Route 30 and Route 100.  We are a vibrant suburban community of 18,000 residents and a daytime population over 26,500.  West Whiteland is one of only six municipalities in Pennsylvania with a Aaa bond rating from Moody’s, the highest possible rating. Moody’s pointed to West Whiteland’s strong and growing tax base, healthy reserves, sound financial policies and strong management as reasons for the upgrade.

The Position:

The Finance Department has six employees who are responsible for all aspects of financial management of the Township, including the financial statements and all associated accounting, financial planning and analysis, cash and investment management, bill payment, payroll, revenue collection and audit support.  This will provide the associate with a great training ground due to the broad exposure to many aspects of accounting and finance.  The office environment is very busy, and also friendly and interactive, with frequent contact with employees from other departments, as well as residents and vendors.  The Accounting and Finance Associate will work closely with the Finance Director and Senior Accountant.  Primary responsibilities include accounts payable, payroll and key pieces of financial reporting and analysis along with the opportunity to improve the associated processes and use of technology.  

For example, the Associate also will assist with special projects including:

  • implementing a new timesheet and payroll system;
  • researching and implementing other efficiency improvements, with a focus on enhanced use of financial software, Excel and potential new systems or tools;
  • analyzing financial performance, cash flow, cost drivers and other budget impacts; and
  • redesigning the financial package for the elected Board of Supervisors

The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a self-starter with a sense of personal accountability, good time management and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The ability to engage and communicate effectively and professionally with the public and coworkers is essential.  The ideal candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or an Associate’s degree and equivalent experience.
