[ARCHIVED] Pipeline construction on hold in Meadowbrook Manor

The PA Department of Environmental Protection said that they asked and Sunoco agreed to voluntarily shut down pipeline construction off of Briar Road in Meadowbrook Manor.  The shut down applies only to pipeline construction; dewatering operations will continue.

DEP has asked Sunoco to prepare a plan that will lay out the steps that will be taken to mitigate or prevent future subsidences at this location. DEP expects Sunoco to submit an emergency permit request to:

  • outline the previously conducted grouting operations that have been in response to the recent subsidences,
  • outline the required restoration for those sites, and
  • submit a plan to prevent future subsidences from occurring on site during the completion of the pipeline installation.

Two of the many sinkholes that have occurred along this bore path have been at least partially in wetlands. DEP has been in coordination with PUC, who regulates pipeline safety issues, and has responded to those events accordingly.

As of July 17th, Sunoco was 244 feet into a 370 foot bore in Meadowbrook Manor. The remaining work to be done will involve crossing Valley Creek.  West Whiteland Township appreciates DEP's proactive step to reduce the likelihood of sinkholes occurring in the remaining bore path, especially while Energy Transfer bores under Valley Creek.
