West Whiteland granted Sunoco a waiver to work 24/7 while they direct bore both pipelines under Pottstown Pike. The bore will start by Coeway Lane on the east side of Rt 100, just south of Target, and end by UFC Gym on the west side. Work is expected to begin in mid-March and last about a month.
In response to questions raised by the public, boring operations will only take place on the east side of Route 100, near Coeway Lane. The only properties that are expected to hear any of the 24/7 construction work at this site are on Coeway Lane. Township officials talked to all of those owners and they supported the waiver to reduce the amount of time that their lives and businesses would be disrupted by pipeline construction.
The work that is permitted 24/7 does not involve the use of a thumper, which generates the loud pounding sound that many have heard and complained about. A thumper was used in late February to install casing under Route 100 during regular daytime working hours, but that work is complete.
If construction noise is louder than expected during weekend or evening hours when construction is normally prohibited and it negatively impacts nearby residents or businesses, then the Township can withdraw the waiver for 24/7 work. In that case, construction would be limited to 7 am–7 pm, Monday through Saturday.
