Sunoco is installing pipe via horizontal directional drilling along Ship Road between Pullman Drive and Boot Road. They have completed drilling and reaming a hole and now are welding pipe and pulling it back through the hole. They are more than halfway done this pullback.
The Township has given them a waiver to work on Sunday, Nov. 10th between 7 am and 7 pm to continue that work. Sunoco requested the waiver because they are concerned that the stoppage normally required on Sunday under the Township’s noise ordinance could lead to problems where the next pipe segment to be installed cannot be properly connected to the pipe in the ground. The Township granted the waiver because if such a problem occurred, as it did a few weeks ago during pullback in East and West Goshen, then they would need to use heavy machinery to try and dislodge the pipe that is deep underground, which would be very loud. If that effort did not work, then they would abandon the pipe in place and have to drill a new hole, prolonging the impact of construction for those who live nearby by several months.
