[ARCHIVED] Accepting Police Officer Applications

Individuals interested in applying for the position of police officer with the West Whiteland Township Police Department shall submit a completed application to the police department. The police administration office must receive all completed applications no later than Monday, July 29, 2019 at 4:00 PM. Those interested in the position should obtain a copy of the application from the township’s website or by picking up an application at the police administration office during normal business hours.

General Qualifications 
1. All applicants must be a citizen of the United States of America.

2. All applicants must be physically and mentally fit and able to perform the essential duties of a police officer.

3. All applicants must possess and retain the ability to provide credible testimony in a court of law.

4. All applicants must successfully complete the ACT 120 training in accordance with the Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) as well as successfully pass the MPOETC certification test within the last two years prior to appointment or possess a valid MPOETC certification number prior to appointment.

5. All applicants must possess a diploma from an accredited high school or graduate equivalency diploma (GED) prior to appointment.

6. All applicants must have successfully completed at least sixty (60) credits from an accredited university/trade school or thirty (30) credits from an accredited university/trade school along with two years active duty military service prior to appointment.

7. All applicants must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment.

8. Any felony conviction is an automatic disqualification. Any criminal activity that would be considered a felony under Pennsylvania law, federal law, or the law of the state in which the activity occurred is a disqualification.

9. Once hired, applicants must be willing and able to receive oleoresin capsicum (O.C.) spray, as well as temporary exposure to a conductive energy weapon (Taser).

1/4 Mile Run. All candidates must complete the run in two (2) minutes.

Sit ups. Total number of repetitions performed in one minute.

Age 20 to 29 Males: 35
Females: 30
Age 30 to 39 Males: 32
Females: 22
Age 40 to 49 Males: 27
Females: 17
Age 50 to 59 Males: 21
Females: 12

Stair Tower. Call candidates must complete the climb and descent in one (1) minute. Candidates will receive a one second penalty for every step missed during the descent.

50 Yard Sprint. All candidates must complete the sprint in ten (10) seconds.

25 Yard Body Drag. Ten (10) minute time limit. Candidates will be required to drag a 150-pound dummy 25 yards. Stopping to re-adjust hand grip is permitted. Dropping the dummy is not permitted and will result in elimination from the testing process.

Failure to complete any of the above events will eliminate the candidate from the hiring process.
