At their meeting on May 8, the Board of Supervisors elected to continue the Pay As You Throw (PAYT) program for residential trash and recycling collection and exercise the final year option (2020) of the collection contract.
A residential trash & recycling survey was conducted from mid-March, when residents received a copy in the Township newsletter, to April 12th. Over 1,200 online, paper and emailed surveys
were submitted. Sixty-nine percent of residents that responded to the question about continuing PAYT (1,179 responses) are in favor of continuing the program, while thirty-one percent prefer a
different program or were not sure.
Survey results and next steps were discussed with the Public Services Commission on May 1. The members present concurred that the survey results support staying with PAYT. They also
agreed that the continued uncertainty in the market for recycled material justifies exercising the 2020 option for the current trash and recycling hauler contracts. During the next year, discussions
will continue about potential changes to recycling that may help to improve marketability of material collected, as well as education efforts to inform residents about what can be recycled.
