DEP entered into a Consent Order and Agreement with Sunoco that issued a $12.6 million penalty on Sunoco and lifted the order suspending construction.
On January 3, 2018, the PA Department of Environmental Protection issued an Administrative Order directing Sunoco to immediately suspend all work on the Mariner East 2 pipeline project authorized by DEP permits.
On February 8, 2018, DEP and Sunoco entered into a Consent Order and Agreement. From DEP’s news release: “The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced that it has issued a $12.6 million civil penalty to Sunoco Pipeline, LLP for permit violations related to the construction of the Mariner East 2 pipeline project. DEP and Sunoco have entered into a Consent Order and Agreement memorializing the penalty. As a result of the strict Consent Order and Agreement, which includes a historic civil penalty and a stringent compliance review, DEP has lifted the order suspending DEP-permitted operations.”
